In 1984, Hollywood applauded Dad for being the first still photographer to be honored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences with a fifty-year retrospective exhibition of more than 120 of his legendary portraits. ÒRemember Bernie, you started it all!Ó Marilyn said to my father in her famous breathless whisper so that the whole crew of The Seven Year Itch within earshot could hear. In that moment he then took the photo of Marilyn in her white billowing dress standing over the subway grate which would internationally become the most famous image to symbolize Hollywood.
