Men went to fight the second "war to end all wars," but it's "Rosy the Riveter" back home who builds the machinery of war. For the first time in history, the labor force is predominantly female. Many in this new demographic get a sweet taste of freedom from the home, financial independence, and a significant role in a world larger than she is. This radiant vision by Bernard reflects, in literal and figurative terms, the beginnings of 'woman' looking beyond her sole reflection as wife, mother and helpmate, to see the many reflections of the "real" woman inside.
